Shirley, Thanks for the article on Mobile Home Parks they need all the publicity they can get. Times are hard and the chances of families losing their homes and walking away from them is now here. It is happening everyday because Rent is being exploited. The owners of the Park have all the control and we the people that actually own our own homes are losing this battle. Thanks Shirley for this wonderful article. Unfortunately it is a real horror story. I have been noticing in my Mobile Home Park that the brand new expensive Mobile Homes and the used less expensive homes are not selling. Mobile Home Parks are in a crisis. Linda E. Meckler

Thanks Shirley for your link to our site. We are a very professsional organization - all volunteers. We strive to assist and educate the residents in mobile home parks to protect themselves. They are often seniors, low income or on fixed incomes. They are a prime target for unscrupulous park owners and managers. At times they might even lose their home to the park. We welcome all to our website.

Happy to spread the word about COMPAC, and hope eventual results are positive for all those who deserve them. Those who use authority to oppress others in any way, or who find it “inconvenient” to alleviate a known problem in their area, will pay a heavy price in the long run.

Excellent Article regarding COMPAC, INC. One of our main goals that we are working on for San Diego County is a Rent Control Ordinance. It has been almost impossible to get any of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to even listen to us regarding the establishment of a Rent Control Ordinance to help the thousands of Mobile Home Residents here in the county. We are trying to help Mobile Home Parks establish Home Owners Associations so that we can get a coalition established with COMPAC, Inc and the numerous HOAs to work on getting this on the ballot. Bill, I hope your relatives are well. They may simply be too busy to let everyone know how they’re doing. Every community in the “triangle” formed by Simi Valley, Chatsworth, West Hills, Woodland Hills and on out to Thousand Oaks is having trouble with the smell of smoke. However, it’s getting better by the day. My guess is that the drycleaners have a nice amount of new business. If by chance you’re thinking of approaching residents with services or products you may provide, reception will be mixed. Many people are still shell-shocked from the experience, even those who were here in 2003. And now, of course, new fires have sprung to life in Burbank, Colton, Corona and elsewhere. It’s going to be a long, weary season for everyone, with likely mudslides to follow after the rains begin. Yet, there is probably nowhere on earth that doesn’t deal with its own type of natural disasters, enhanced by today’s living patterns and densities. We stay because it’s home.

I recall stories from the 2003 fires where many homes had been affected by the smoke, so much that the insides smelled like an ashtray. Which communities are are being affected by this smoke the most ? I do have some relatives in the area and have not had any contact.
